Anyone who has visited a Sizzler restaurant over their lifetime will remember the classic cheese toast they serve directly to your table. This soft and crunchy cheese bread was always the highlight for me and I knew I had to recreate it to enjoy at home.
This copycat recipe is every bit as delicious as the original version. In fact, I can’t tell the difference between the two!
It’s also incredibly easy to make. You’ll only need a handful of ingredients and you’ll have sizzler cheese toast on the table in no time.
This is a small batch recipe that will make 4 slices of sourdough cheese toast, but if you’d like to make more slices or use larger bread, feel free to double or triple the cheese butter!

Quick & easy to put together. Carbs + Cheese - need I say more? Perfect nostalgic throwback recipe.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
Here’s what you’ll need to make homemade sizzler cheese bread (full measurements listed in the printable recipe card at the bottom of this post)…
Sourdough Bread - or feel free to use whatever bread you have on hand. ButterPaprika Garlic Powder Parmesan Cheese
HOW TO MAKE SIZZLER CHEESE TOAST - STEP BY STEP
Combine cheese butter ingredients together in a small bowl.
Slather the cheese butter on top of each slice of bread.
Heat up a small skillet on medium heat. Place a slice of bread buttered side down onto the skillet and press the top of the bread down with a spatula.
Place a lid on top (if you don’t have a lid that fits, try a plate) and cook for 1 minute, or until the bread is soft on the exposed side and golden brown on the side that’s against the skillet.
Wipe down the pan with a piece of paper towel to remove any excess cheese or butter, then repeat with another slice of bread. Repeat, wiping down the skillet after each use, until all pieces are cooked.
TIPS FOR COOKING THIS RECIPE
If you’re planning to use anything other than sourdough, I’d recommend making a double or triple batch of the cheese butter. The recipe as is is small batch and suited to 4 large slices of sourdough bread. Using a lid over the skillet while the bread cooks helps get that signature soft side of the cheese toast. I found one of my saucepan lids fit perfectly, but if you don’t have a lid that works try a plate instead. If you have a bigger skillet that fits 2 slices at a time, feel free to cook multiple slices at the same time. Make sure you wipe down the skillet between batches. If you find your skillet is smoking or heated up too much, remove from heat and cool down slightly before cooking your next slice. You don’t want your cheese toast to burn!
