The McDonald’s hot mustard sauce is my go to dip when ordering chicken nuggets. But they discontinued serving it for a while, to my great sorrow. Fortunately, they brought it back. But I am not taking any chances this time. Life is unpredictable, and you never know if they will take this spectacular sauce away again. The solution? Make your own! This recipe is quick, easy, and dare I say it? The sauce tastes even better than the original.

What is McDonald’s Hot Mustard?

McDonald’s hot mustard is one of the dips for their iconic chicken McNuggets. It has that wonderful combination of creamy, sweet, savory, and tangy. It’s perfect not just with chicken nuggets and tenders, but even burgers, fries, and other savory dishes. Contrary to its name, the hot mustard is not that hot. Sure, it has a little bit of a kick to it, but I wouldn’t call it spicy. It has just the right balance of flavors, making it such a fantastic dip. But even though many people loved it, apparently it did not do so well compared to the other dips. So what did Mickey Dee’s do? They stopped producing it for a while. Thankfully, they came to their senses and started serving it again.

Ingredients

Dijon Mustard. Dijon mustard is made with black and/or brown mustard seeds and white wine. It has a sharp, intense mustard flavor that’s bordering on hot and bitter. Yellow Mustard. Yellow mustard is more mellow, tangy, and sweet. Together, these first two ingredients form the mustard component of this sauce. Heinz 57 Sauce. Heinz 57 sauce is a steak sauce with an orange-yellow hue. Unlike other steak sauces, it tastes a lot more like a combination of ketchup and mustard seed. Out of all the ingredients on this list, this is the only one that you may not have on hand. But don’t worry, because it’s available in all local grocery stores. Mayonnaise. Mayonnaise gives that creamy and sweet aspect to the sauce. It is also what makes the sauce incredibly thick. Sour Cream. Last but not least, you’ll need sour cream to give the sauce some tartness. It will also give it that super smooth and creamy consistency.
