Because I totally did! ? I ate these Blue Cheese Mashed Potatoes right out of the stove, without anything accompanying it. Zero, zip, nada! Just mashed potato heaven in my mouth with a touch of funky deliciousness! I probably ate 2 servings by myself, in one sitting. But that’s ok, because holiday calories don’t count, right? And when they say that they don’t count, they mean all the holiday recipe testing as well and not just the food we eat for T and C days, right? Right! Just watch my mom send me a nasty message saying that I need to lose some weight before I make it down to Brazil, otherwise people will think that I’m Santa. ? La la la, can’t hear you, mom! Oh yeah, and the good news is that me and Tim are going down to Brazil for Christmas and New Year’s. I’m extremely excited because he hasn’t been there yet, so it will be great to show him around, especially all the food places I keep talking about (like Brazilian PIZZA! Yep, that’s a thing and you are missing out on). I also can’t wait for him to meet the love of my life: my grandma Manuda, muse of this food blog! True story: my grandmother’s name is Marilda, not Manuda. But when I was little, learning to speak, I couldn’t pronounce her name and I would call her Manuda. And since then, that’s how the whole family calls her! Yay for being a trendsetter! lol
But, honestly, the truth is that I’ve been so jittery about this trip because I haven’t been home in more than two years. Two whole years without seeing my grandma, my friends, my dog Guiny! It scares me a little bit that everybody will be different (older!) and that they will have moved on with their lives and I just won’t fit in.
At the same time, it is so lonely up here by myself. Yes, I have my wonderful husband and Lola, but other than that, I have no family support! At least not the family support I grew up used to. Oh, God, how I miss my family! Sad violin music plays here Sometimes I just wish I wasn’t a “grown-up”. Can I just resign my grown-upness and become a child again? Pretty please? (Who can I yell at speak to regarding this matter?)
Blah! Since my request most likely won’t be approved, let’s just focus on what makes me happy. Food. Delicious food! Last year I made my grandmother’s Creamy Onion and Garlic Mashed Potatoes for Thanksgiving. But this year I wanted something new and bold! And what’s bolder than blue cheese? (Besides, I had like 3 blue cheese wedges in my fridge that really needed some purpose in life!) So, if you don’t mind twisting things a bit, I highly recommend this side dish. Because, let’s face it, everybody is a little sick of eating the same stuff every year! ? P.S. Wanna keep in touch?
