Coconut water is definitely enjoyable on its own, but did you know that it’s also an excellent cocktail mixer? Look at it this way – coconut water is hydrating, while alcohol is dehydrating. They’re the perfect yin and yang. With coconut water in the mix, you can say goodbye to hangovers. Not only that, but coconut water’s subtle sweetness also makes for a great flavor addition. It’s not that overpowering, so it complements a wide variety of liqueurs and liquors very well. So whether it be a margarita, a pina colada, or a fruit punch, trust coconut water to give any cocktail a nutty punch.
1. Caribeno Cocktail
The Caribeno is a highball cocktail with coconut water, lime juice, and sugar syrup base spiked with rum. The combination of coconut water and lime juice makes this cocktail taste like a Caribbean holiday, hence the name. With its ridiculously refreshing flavor, you’ll truly be swept away to the tropics. Despite its name, though, this cocktail was actually created in San Francisco back in 2009 by Martin Cate, the owner of Smuggler’s Cove, an exotic cocktail destination that houses the largest rum selection in the country.
2. Coconut Gin and Tonics
If there’s one thing good about the summer heat, it’s the opportunity to quench your thirst with this coconut gin and tonic. It’s a simple, 4-ingredient cocktail, but its cooling effects will keep your body cool and hydrated for hours. The combination of coconut water, lime juice, mint, gin, and tonic creates a delicious drink with a cooling, soothing sensation. A splash of gin gives it the oomph that makes it summer party-worthy.
3. Coconut Margarita
Give your classic margarita a nutty twist with a splash of coconut water. If exploring margarita variations is your thing, you definitely need to give this tropical version a try. Instead of just the usual tequila, triple sec, and lime juice, you’ll add coconut milk and coconut water into the picture. This creates not just a creamy, white hue, but added depth and flavor as well. It’s not overwhelmingly sweet, either, so if you find the classic margarita a bit too sugary for your liking, this one is perfect. Best of all, this margarita is lower in calories, so you can have that second glass free of guilt.
4. Strawberry Coconut Water Lemonade
Strawberry, coconut, and lemonade together in one drink? If you think the flavors don’t come together well, think again. This is the mash-up you didn’t know you needed. This strawberry coconut water lemonade is sweet and tart with a hint of nuttiness. It’s as refreshing as you’ll imagine it to be. Adding coconut water cuts through the tartness of the strawberries and lemons, giving you a perfectly balanced mocktail. Plus, considering the many health benefits of coconut water, strawberries, and lemon, this is easily one of the most nutritious drinks on this list.
5. Piña Colada
Just the thought of sipping pina colada soothes my heart and soul. A sip of this refreshing drink is like a quick escape from the stresses of life. So whenever there’s an opportunity, I make it a point to make a tall glass of pina colada. This cocktail has the best combination of pineapple, coconut, and rum. Its tropical flavor is perfection as it is, but you can still take it a step further by making a thick, frozen version by blending the ingredients with ripe bananas and ice.
6. Bluewater Breeze Cocktail
Let’s first take a moment to adore this cocktail’s lovely, two-toned hue! It’s green at the base, blue on top, and delicious from the bottom up. This cocktail contains coconut rum, coconut water, and cream of coconut. So, as you can probably tell, the coconut flavor is strong in this one. It gets its blue hue from blue curacao, a citrus-flavored liqueur. What gives it that green tinge at the bottom is pineapple juice, which is not poured into the mix until the very end. The transformation from blue to green may be expected from the added pineapple, but it looks magical nonetheless.
7. Coconut Pineapple Rum Cocktail
Once again, coconut and pineapple join forces to make a terrific tropical treat. You really can’t go wrong with this classic combo. Besides the coconut water and pineapple juice, this cocktail also has a splash of lime juice for a zesty twist. The lime brings out the flavors of the coconut and pineapple even further, making the drink even more flavorful. The combination of white rum and coconut Malibu Rum gives the cocktail a nice kick.
8. Coconut Water Champagne Fruit Punch
This fruit punch is a blend of champagne, orange juice, and coconut water. If the thought of mixing together champagne and coconut water sounds weird to you, let me assure you that the combination works. Keep in mind that coconut water has just the slightest nutty flavor, so don’t worry about it ruining your expensive champagne. The orange juice can be swapped out with any fruit juice, so feel free to make this punch your own. My personal choice is pineapple juice, in case you’re wondering.
9. Coconut Creamsicle Margarita
I’m completely sold by the name of it alone. Coconut creamsicle margarita? Count me in! This creative concoction is a mix of tequila, Grand Marnier (an orange liqueur), coconut water, coconut milk, and simple syrup. The cocktail itself is already a guaranteed hit, but make it more fun by rimming the cocktail glass with shredded toasted coconut.
10. Coconut Peach Cooler
If you’ve never tried the tandem of coconut and peach before, take this as the sign to do it. To say that this coconut peach cooler is refreshing is an understatement. With its bright golden hue and ridiculously delicious taste, it’s hard to decide what to like most about it. As a bonus, this terrific thirst-quencher only calls for three ingredients: peaches, coconut water, and rum. It’s simple, but it surely hits the spot. Click on a star to rate it!
